🚫 Foods That Are Strictly Off the Menu

No Matter How Much Your Dog Disagrees

Some foods are “not ideal.”
Some foods are “only in tiny amounts.”

And then there are foods that are absolutely not happening — ever.

This is that list.

Tape it to the fridge.
Send it to visiting relatives.
Refer to it when your dog deploys the eyes.

NEVER FEED YOUR DOG

🍫 Chocolate (All Types)

Dark, milk, baking — all dangerous.

Chocolate contains theobromine, which dogs cannot process properly.
Even small amounts can cause:

  • Vomiting
  • Seizures
  • Heart issues
  • Death

Yes, even “just a bit.”

🍇 Grapes & Raisins

No one knows exactly why they’re toxic.
We just know they are.

Even a single grape can cause:

  • Kidney failure
  • Sudden illness
  • Emergency vet visits

This includes:

  • Raisins
  • Sultanas
  • Currants
  • Trail mix

🧅 Onion, Garlic & Chives (Any Form)

Raw, cooked, powdered — doesn’t matter.

These damage red blood cells and can cause:

  • Anaemia
  • Weakness
  • Collapse

That includes:

  • Onion rings
  • Garlic bread
  • Stock cubes
  • Seasoning powders

“Cooked” does not mean safe.

🍬 Xylitol (Artificial Sweetener)

Found in:

  • Sugar-free gum
  • Sugar-free lollies
  • Some peanut butters
  • Baked goods
  • Toothpaste

Xylitol causes:

  • Rapid insulin release
  • Dangerous blood sugar drops
  • Liver failure

This one is especially urgent and deadly.

🦴 Cooked Bones

Cooked bones splinter.

Splintered bones can:

  • Puncture intestines
  • Break teeth
  • Cause choking
  • Require surgery

Raw bones are a separate topic.
Cooked bones are a hard no.

🍷 Alcohol

Dogs don’t need wine.
Or beer.
Or “just a lick.”

Alcohol can cause:

  • Vomiting
  • Disorientation
  • Breathing problems
  • Coma

Also: your dog is not impressed.

Caffeine (Coffee, Tea, Energy Drinks)

Caffeine overstimulates the nervous system.

Symptoms include:

  • Tremors
  • Heart issues
  • Seizures

That includes:

  • Coffee grounds
  • Tea bags
  • Energy drinks

🍄 Wild Mushrooms

Store-bought mushrooms = usually safe (still unnecessary).
Wild mushrooms = don’t risk it.

Some are highly toxic and hard to identify.
Not worth the gamble.

🧂 Salty, Fatty or Highly Processed Foods

This includes:

  • Chips
  • Bacon
  • Sausages
  • Fried food
  • Fast food leftovers

These can cause:

  • Pancreatitis
  • Digestive upset
  • Long-term health issues

Also: once they try bacon, nothing else will ever be good enough.

⚠️ “But They’ve Had It Before and Were Fine”

This is not a safety test.

Toxicity can:

  • Build over time
  • Hit differently each exposure
  • Be fatal without warning

Past survival does not equal future immunity.

Special Diets, Allergies & “My Dog Is Sensitive”

Some dogs genuinely need:

  • Grain-free
  • Limited ingredient
  • Prescription diets

Many dogs just need:

  • Better portion control
  • Fewer table scraps
  • Less panic from their humans

If your dog has:

  • Chronic itching
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Weight loss

➡️ Talk to your vet before changing anything.
